Frequently asked questions.
We intentionally avoid the conventional. Here is what that means for the wax, the wick, and the box on your doorstep.
We had smelled it all before. So had you.
Aeris scents are composed, not simply combined. Each begins with an idea—a place, a memory, an atmosphere, or occasionally a question we cannot leave alone—and develops through small test pours, careful records, willing noses, and an unreasonable number of revisions.
We use modern aroma theory to build fragrances with movement: an opening, a middle, and a finish. No anonymous vats. No fragrance-by-committee. Just small-batch scents made slowly, tested thoroughly, and poured by hand in our Indiana studio.
The goal is not merely to make a room smell pleasant.
The goal is to make it unforgettable.
We prefer to be precise about this: no burning candle is literally “non-toxic,” and we are suspicious of anyone who promises otherwise.
What we can tell you is exactly what we use. Aeris candles are made with American-grown soy wax, cotton wicks, and CandleScience Clean Scents™ fragrance oils. These fragrance formulations are screened to exclude phthalates and ingredients appearing on CandleScience’s published restricted-ingredient standards.
No paraffin wax. No mystery additives. No needlessly murky ingredient claims.
Just thoughtfully selected materials and rich, layered fragrance—because clean formulation should not require scentless virtue.
Entirely.
We wick, blend, pour, cure, inspect, label, and package every candle ourselves in Shelbyville, Indiana. There is often music playing. There is occasionally a dog underfoot. There is always someone checking the scale twice.
“Hand-poured” is not decorative language around here. It is the production method.
We do not describe any scented candle as universally pet-safe. Animals have different sensitivities, and birds and pets with respiratory conditions can be particularly delicate around fragrance and combustion.
Our candles are made without paraffin wax or phthalates, but they should still be enjoyed thoughtfully: burn them in a ventilated room, keep them beyond the reach of curious paws, and never leave an open flame unattended.
Your pet may have excellent taste. It should not be responsible for candle supervision.
Our standard candles generally provide approximately 40–50 hours of burn time, depending on how they are used.
For the longest, cleanest burn, trim the wick to ¼ inch before lighting and allow the melted wax to reach the edge of the vessel—especially during the first burn.
Candles, much like people, perform better when properly introduced.
A few small rituals make an enormous difference:
Trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch before every burn. On the first lighting, allow the wax to melt fully to the edge of the vessel. Keep the candle away from drafts, never burn it for more than four hours at a time, and discontinue use when approximately ½ inch of wax remains.
And, naturally, never leave it unattended.
It is a small open flame wearing an elegant label. Treat it accordingly.
They do.
Our soy wax releases fragrance beautifully under the gentle heat of a candle warmer, making it an excellent flame-free option for offices, dormitories, or anywhere an open flame would be frowned upon.
The fragrance experience may differ slightly from a traditional burn, but the scent remains very much itself.
Please do.
Once the candle is finished, remove the remaining wax and wash the vessel with warm, soapy water. Our jars make excellent homes for cotton swabs, tiny plants, loose change, paintbrushes, or an unusually distinguished paperclip collection.
A well-made object deserves a second occupation.
We ship throughout the United States for a flat $7 shipping fee.
Customers near Shelbyville may also choose Local Delivery at checkout when eligible. If you know the owners, there is a respectable chance one of us may arrive at your door holding candles.
Amazon has drones. We have family members with cars.
Because perfectly good packaging deserves to be used again.
We ship using 100% repurposed packing materials. Every box, air pillow, plastic liner, sheet of bubble wrap, and packing peanut has previously arrived at our home carrying something else. We save it, sort it, and put it back to work.
That means your Aeris order may arrive in a box that appears to have had a former career. The bubble wrap may not coordinate with the label. The packing peanuts may be an unusually democratic assortment.
This is entirely intentional.
Reusing materials keeps useful packaging out of the waste stream, avoids consuming new resources merely for presentation, and helps us keep shipping costs—and candle prices—reasonable.
The candle will be beautiful. The box has other priorities.
We want you to genuinely enjoy your Aeris candle—not tolerate it politely because returning things is inconvenient.
Contact us within 30 days of delivery if your candle arrives damaged, the fragrance is not right for you, or something otherwise falls short. We will issue a full refund or arrange a replacement, depending on the circumstances.
There is no need to ship an unwanted candle back. Instead, pass it along to someone who may love it.
No hoops. No interrogation. Just good scent and good faith.
Very much so.
We develop custom scents for private events, creative projects, businesses, hospitality programs, brand activations, retreats, launches, and other occasions that deserve something more distinctive than a logo on a familiar fragrance.
For larger events and brand programs, Imprint the Event by Aeris Scent Studio turns scent into part of the experience. We compose a signature fragrance around the mood, setting, and story of the occasion, then send guests home with it in a hand-poured, custom-branded candle.
The event ends. The scent brings it back.
Have something smaller, stranger, or entirely unprecedented in mind? We would still like to hear about it. Tell us what you are imagining at aeriscandlecompany@gmail.com, or explore Imprint the Event to begin a business or event program.
We cannot promise every campfire-croissant-sea-mist proposal will survive the bench.
We can promise to take it seriously.
You’ve smelled these before. Everywhere.
And that’s kind of the problem.
Sweet, sleepy, and the unofficial scent of yoga studios, massage chairs, and “self-care” kits in big box stores.
Bright and vaguely herbal. Marketed as “clean,” smells like kitchen spray. Almost always forgettable.
Spa-core royalty. Feels fresh, smells cold, and shows up in every “relax” candle ever made.
The scent that launched a thousand clichés. Clove. Cinnamon. Nostalgia. Over it.
Trying really hard to smell like an old-money study. Actually smells like gym bro cologne in a wood-paneled room.
Tropical with training wheels. The default “beach” scent when no one wants to take a creative risk.
A powdery floral wrapped in a “modern” label. Smells like every boutique hotel soap.
Zingy, bright, and indistinguishable from lemon-scented floor cleaner. Spring in a bottle—or a mop bucket.
Warm, soft, and painfully safe. The olfactory equivalent of beige knitwear.
Delicate, polite, and everywhere. The scent of wellness brands that don’t want to offend anyone.
You won’t find any of those here. We craft original, layered blends meant to surprise your nose—not put it to sleep. We intentionally avoid the conventional.
Every Aeris scent is built from the ground up to be distinctive, modern, and unforgettable.
